Learning about Holi in 3/4

Holi was celebrated in Year 3/4.

We learnt about how Hindus celebrate this festival by throwing powder paint at their friends.  We threw it onto paper though!  We examined how they remember good triumphing over bad, the relevance of the bonfire and the celebration of Spring. Super active learning – well done Year 3/4!

Magical Making in Y5/6

As part of their Harry Potter themed learning, Year 5/6 had an amazing two days of Design & Technology, with all the activities having something to do with Harry Potter.

There was so much going on: quilt making, sock puppets, bunting & stars, and even some wand containers.

Our children love creating and experimenting with our natural resources. They decided to make patterns this week at Forest School and in our Transient Area.

Learning Outdoors with Potions and Paint Pots

Lately the children have been interested in making potions so we extended this to our outdoor play, supplying the children with lots of resources such as buckets and other containers of various sizes, large sticks, spoons, powder paint, water and natural materials which we found in our outdoor area. The children were then able to access all this completely independently and use their own imaginations to make some fantastic creations.

We made potions with lots of different consistencies and we then used these creations to make marks on the ground and tables. The children used such a fantastic range of skills in this activity: communication and language, problem solving, physical  and creative development all whilst developing their knowledge and understanding of the world.  They also had an amazing time and got very messy, as did Mrs Fisher!

Transition workshops at the Design and Technology department, Fulford School

Recently, Year 6 pupils have been up and down the road to Fulford School, where they have participated in some transition Design and Technology activities, led by Fulford’s head of department, Dave Wooldridge. As well as carrying out a challenge to build and race an elastic band powered car, we cooked in Fulford’s purpose-built kitchen.

On all our visits, the behaviour and attitude of Fishergate pupils has been exemplary.  We are proud to take them out and about!
