Mrs Wilson’s Socially Distanced May 4th Run!
On May 4th we usually run our Star Wars marathon at Fishergate Primary School with all the children and staff involved – and often many parents and governors! We have had to postpone this year’s event, but Mrs Wilson is planning to run past as many Early Years children’s homes as possible to give them a (socially distanced!) wave.
Foodbanks in the UK are under more pressure than ever in the current situation; York alone has seen a 400% increase in use since lockdown began.

York Civic Youth Choir ‘Lights on the Lake’
The York Civic Youth Choir have once again been invited by St Leonard’s Hospice to perform for them at one of their fundraising events. “Lights on the Lake” in Rowntree Park will take place on Wednesday 20th March at 6.30pm. This is a new event for 2019, there will be a short service (similar to “Light up a Life” at Christmas) followed by lanterns being floated on the Lake in Rowntree Park.
The plan is to light the way to the lake with a lantern procession to the lake and the choir have been invited to lead the procession with lanterns and then sing some songs before lanterns are floated. We would love for as many of the members of the choir old and new to be involved with this as it promises to be a really magical event.
We will be having ONE rehearsal only on Saturday 16th March from 10am-3:30pm at St Aelred’s School, including an informal performance for parents and family at 3:15pm. Please sign up below to take part.

Well done to our Wassailers!
The choir did a splendid job of entertaining shoppers in York City Centre this afternoon, despite the weather! Thanks also to all the adult helpers who braved the rather wintry conditions with us. The money raised will help to fund…

Visiting York Mosque
The Year Y5/6 children visited York Mosque where we were greeted by the friendly Imam, Abid Salik. Abid talked to us about why Muslims go to the mosque, the features of the mosque, the importance of prayer, and the significance of the 5 pillars of Islam. He also answered our many, many questions!
We also got to have a peek inside the new mosque. It’s enormous! We wondered what the old mosque will be used for when the new one is finished. Abid said they hadn’t decided yet but it might be used as community room.

Y3/4 Visit to Barstow House
Last week, as part of the Musical Connections project, Y3/4 children went to Barstow House in York. It was lovely to see familiar faces from last year and to make some more new friends. We all enjoyed singing and playing musical games which brought smiles to the tenants that live there.
Musical Connections is a registered charity that who facilitate intergenerational music workshops in care and residential homes in York. We have been working with the project for a number of years now, and our participation has been enormously rewarding for Fishergate pupils. If you would like to find out more about this fantastic organisation, please visit their website.
Merry Christmas Everybody!

A Visit from PC Liversidge
PC Liversidge and his student officers came to visit us this week.
The children had so much fun turning the sirens on and off, trying on uniforms and getting into the van. They learned so much about what police officers do and how they help us.
