Last Friday, Fishergate were awarded with a Bronze Award for Food for Life. This is to celebrate our food culture in school. With the new curriculum, food education plays a large part, understanding where food comes from and the process from ‘fork to plate’; involving the local community and giving a real purpose to growing food.
We are excited to have achieved this reward and Mrs Ekers took along a group of five school council representatives, who had worked on the school lunch survey questionnaire, to the ceremony. During the course of the afternoon the group took part in planting seeds in homemade biodegradable pots, smoothie making and writing food poetry with the support of a York poet Anneliese Emmans Dean. Next term we have invited Anneliese to join us for a school dinner with the children.
The group of children represented the school beautifully and spoke from the heart when they were presented with their reward,
Look out for our home grown produce being sold later this year (possibly at the Summer Fair)!
