On Wednesday, 4th March, Fishergate School will be welcoming International Athlete James Denny for a morning of sports activities. James will be undertaking fitness circuits with each class, before conducting a special assembly during which he will undertake a question and answer session with pupils to discuss his sporting journey.
James started diving in 2005 at the age of 12 and since 2011 has represented Great Britain at International level. He has competed at the European Championships and won the Silver Medal in the 10m synchro at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, with his diving partner, Tom Daley. He is now aiming to represent Great Britain in the 2016 Rio Olympics, and is participating in the SportsFORSchools scheme.
Each pupil has now been given a sponsorship form in order to raise funds to support training costs for our athlete, as well as raise money for school PE equipment. Children will receive prizes for the money they raise, including a blue Sports for Schools wristband for over £5, an autographed red wristband for over £15 and an autographed A4 athlete poster for over £30. PE kits will need to be worn on the day, so please ensure these are in school.
We look forward to welcoming James, and hopefully cheering him on in Rio in 2016!
