Massive congratulations to the 14 current and former Fishergate pupils who competed in Sunday 7th May’s York Junior Chess competition, hosted in our very own hall and attracting 80 participants from across Yorkshire.
For the vast majority of Fishergate players, this was their first chess tournament. Despite that, there were some amazing results: Aaron Rich, Nicholas and Andy Carden achieved a clear sweep of first, second and third in the Novice section while Loic Clegg won the best U-8 prize with Japhet Cashdan, Kiri Shaw and Leo Ahn all just narrowly missing out on age prizes.
Thanks go to the Friends of Fishergate who ran a snack bar throughout the day raising funds for the school and helping with car parking and logistics.
Fishergate was easily the best represented school in the competition and the organisers have already asked if they can come back next year!
