On Monday 7th July the school council went to visit the local York charity Carecent which provides breakfasts for homeless people, and those in need, in our community. Fishergate school supported this charity in February by donating over 200 tins of food and toiletries.
We found out that Carecent has over 50 volunteers and rely on donations to help feed many people each day. We had a tour of the Carecent premises and saw the kitchen and canteen where breakfasts are prepared and served and also the storerooms where all the supplies are kept- including the food and toiletries we donated back in February.
Nicky, project leader at Carecent, said that our donations were gratefully received and came at a time in the year when supplies are low. She also mentioned that now they have an urgent need for breakfast cereals and because of this we are asking for your help again.
On Friday 18th July children can come in non-uniform and are invited to bring in a box of breakfast cereal to donate to Carecent.
We have seen what a fantastic local charity Carecent is and we would be very grateful if as a school we can support them again.
Thank you for your continued support.
